Creative Arcana is a regular series on The Shuffle featuring interviews with writers, artists, and makers about their creative lives, projects, and processes. The line of questioning is informed by a series of tarot card pulls.
I recently1 had the absolute pleasure of chatting to Shannon Knight, the psychotherapist and tarot reader behind the incredible The Tarot Diagnosis podcast.
Shannon is a John Hopkins-trained queer psychotherapist who works to demystify both tarot and therapy by exploring the human experience through the archetypes and psychology of the cards.
It was a genuine honor and a real treat to get to know her over the course of our interview, and I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation.

See below an image of the five tarot cards that guided our conversation: The Devil, the Sun, the Queen of Swords, the Two of Swords, and the King of Swords

How do you relate Shannon’s approach to these cards?
Do you write secret poetry, or have other deeply personal art practices?
Do you/would you consider using parts work in your own tarot practice?
“RECENT” IS RELATIVE. The truth is that Shannon was kind enough to speak to me in March and I sat on this interview all spring thanks to an extreme and persistent case of ADHD-related executive dysfunction rot. I am truly grateful to Shannon, and to you, dear reader/listener, for the patience and understanding.
