On-demand Tarot Journal Session, April 14
There's no live session today, but I'm not going to leave you hanging
Hi little coven.
We’re taking a break from our usual live meeting today, as I’m taking a rare day off to host family. But I’ve got a short pre-recorded session for you to use on your own time today, inspired by the spread I’ve been using most days this year.
Reminder: next week we’re kicking of the Season of Growth. You can register for that special workshop (taking place at the same time as our usual journaling session) here.
On the first of January, I pulled myself a Major Arcana card for the year, alongside two cards from the Earthbound Oracle. The first card, Perseverance, represents the energy I’m calling in this year. The second, Resistance, represents the energy I’m releasing.
I was struck by how these two cards slotted so neatly into each other. Perseverance is, after all, exactly what we do in the face of resistance.
But, as someone who struggles with low energy and executive dysfunction, resistance comes a lot more naturally to me than perseverance does, and I knew immediately that I’d need to manage my expectations around what’s sustainable for me when it comes to calling in perseverance and releasing resistance.
So, I designed a simple two-card spread to help me reflect on these themes daily. I’d be lying if I said I use it every day (sometimes resistance wins the battle!), but I do turn to it most days (perseverance wins the war), and it’s intentionally created to be simple, forgiving, and open to what’s realistic for me every time I use it.
I’ve adapted the spread into a weekly context to fit our format, and included an optional prompt for a third card. But before I share the spread with you, I invite you to do the following:
First, reflect in your journal about what the words perseverance and resistance mean to you, and how these themes are at play in your life right now. If you’re listening to the recording, feel free to pause for a few minutes while you make your notes.
Then, I want you to get your own tarot or oracle deck in your hands, and give it a shuffle while you take four deep breaths - in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Finally, hold your deck against your heart for one last breath in and out, and then draw two cards.
