How to use the journal

• Go to dailytarotjournal.com every day and enter the password to see a new card pull and journal prompts each day

• Reflect on the card and fill out each prompt

• Opt to email your responses to yourself so that you can save your answers to a personal document or Notion board

• A link-out to a short write-up on each card will be available each day, in case you need some help adding context to the card

• Come back tomorrow!

Card of the Month

The Hanged One (more traditionally known as the Hanged Man) is the 13th card in the Major Arcana . In the Rider Waite Smith tarot, it’s illustrated like this: A figure which bears at least a passing resemblance to The Fool (last month’s card, as it happens!), the first card in the tarot, is suspended upside down. They are tied by one ankle to the bough of a tree, and their free leg is bent, and so are the figure’s arms. Surrounding their head is a radiant halo of light.

The card can be misleadingly ominous, thanks to its name. But if you actually look closely, it’s really not that scary at all - the colors are bright, the figure hasn’t been hanged as in executed — rather, they are fairly unthreateningly suspended from a tree; their posture is totally relaxed but very clearly alive, and that golden halo is undeniably a positive symbol.

This isn’t a “death card”, it’s an enlightenment card. It’s a card of pause, consideration, and imagination. The suspended figure isn’t hanging to their death, but hanging in a way that allows them to see their world turned upside down, and find wonder and expansion in it.

In the Major Arcana sequence, the Hanged One follows The Wheel of Fortune (number ten) and Justice (number 11), suggesting that major changes and decisions have led the figure to see the world in a different way - now, suspended in the air, they are taking the time to really make sense of what they’ve experienced.

This July, take the time to pause and reflect on the big moments that have taken lace for you over the last few months, and how those experiences have changed - or are changing - the way you see your world, and yourself.

A Hanged One-inspired Tarot Spread for July

To use this spread, shuffle your deck until it feels right to stop. Then, draw one card from the top of the deck and one card from the bottom. Lay the cards out face up, in correspondence to the following prompts:

1. A challenge I’m facing

2. How I can see it differently
