Card of the Month
The Empress guides us into January, reminding us to nurture ourselves - to treat our lives like a garden, not a factory floor.
Here is a figure who luxuriates in making themself comfortable, who knows that leadership, care work, and community contribution can’t happen when we deprive ourselves.
In a creative context, I always read the Empress as a cue for reevaluating my creative environment, and making adjustments so that I’m better placed to care for myself, so that I ultimately have more to give.
This January, take the time to pause and reflect on how the Empress is speaking to you. What can do do now to make yourself more comfortable… to nourish the garden of your life?
An Empress-inspired Tarot Spread for January
To use this spread, shuffle your deck until it feels right to stop. Then, draw three cards. Lay the cards out face up, in correspondence to the following prompts:
What seeds have I planted?
How can I nurture them to grow?
What do I need to feel comfortable as I do the work of caring for these seeds?
All my love for January, and keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for a special extract from my new book, THE SHADOW PATH.

Perfect timing! Arriving at my desk already feeling depleted this morning. Always the same intention - to help protect the earth and to fight for equity in education through writing - but I am stumbling at my desk, clearly not taking care of myself! Up since about 4, hungry, dehydrated, rushed...so good to get this message to slow down and fill myself up first—thank you!
